Patents and copyrights are two examples of intellectual property rights (IPRs), which are crucial to academic endeavours, public engagement, and societal functions. The incentives for researchers to concentrate on practical research and for scientific institutions to spread creative ideas and practises could be lessened without the proper protection of discoveries and creations. The eco-system that consists of academic organisations, public institutions, and commercial actors, such as enterprises and NGOs, is currently centred on the transfer of technology and information from academia to other partners.
